The SMARTworks® iMedConsent™ application enhances the education, discussion and documentation associated with the informed consent and other patient communication processes.  Trusted by more than 250 hospitals, and in thousands of physician practices, this novel solution is integral to efforts to reduce risk, enhance patient safety, standardize communication, ensure compliance, lower costs, and better document informed consent encounters.

The iMedConsent™ application first began as a practice-based software tool, developed by a urologist, James Gottesman, MD, and marketed in the early 1990’s as the DISCussion™ tool by Bard Urological Division, C.R. Bard, Inc.  The success of that original practice-based software offering resulted in the founding of Dialog Medical in 1997.  The newly-formed company developed informed consent and patient education materials for over 30 clinical specialties making significant strides in the areas of ophthalmology and orthopedic surgery.  In 2002 Dialog Medical launched the hospital version of the iMedConsent™ application.  This novel informed consent and patient education tool quickly became the standard of care for many of the country’s leading health systems including:  the Department of Veterans Affairs, St. Luke’s Episcopal Health System, Resurrection Health Care, and the Los Angeles County Department of Health Services.  Dialog Medical merged with Standard Register Healthcare in July 2011 (see merger announcement and acquisition finalized news releases). In August 2015, Taylor Corporation completed the acquisition of Standard Register and in March 2016, Standard Register Healthcare became Taylor Healthcare (see announcement).

Today, the SMARTworks® iMedConsent™ application is part of Taylor Healthcare’s portfolio of patient engagement solutions.  It contributes to Taylor Healthcare’s mission of helping its customers navigate a changing business landscape and supporting those customers in their aim of delivering safe, quality patient care.  The SMARTworks® iMedConsent™ application joins SMARTworks® Clinical Enterprise and Taylor Healthcare’s broad portfolio of industry-leading solutions to ensure positive patient identification, improve patient safety, engage patients, and educate staff.
